The all-new Kia Sorento, which goes on UK sale early next year, has passed Euro NCAP crash safety testing with flying colours.

Kia’s new SUV was put through its paces by the independent consumer body, who conduct crash tests on all new cars released on the European market, and awarded the Sorento the full five-stars.  The award was based on its performance in the testing which saw a score of 90 per cent achieved for Adult Occupant Protection, 83 per cent for Child Occupant Protection, 67 per cent for Pedestrian Protection, and 71 per cent in the Safety Assistance category.
The new Sorento has been designed with a raft of both passive and active features, and an even stronger body shell which impressed during crash test for its stability and occupant protection.  The body shell of the new Kia Sorento makes greater use of ultra-high tensile steel than the model it replaces, up from 24.4 per cent of its construction to 52.7 per cent, and this has improved its performance in the event of an impact as well as increasing the torsional rigidity of the structure.  The use of ultra-strong hot-stamped steel in the construction of the shell has more than doubled, significantly strengthening the A- and B-pillars.
Kia’s standard issue Vehicle Stability Management system stabilises the new Sorento in the event of simultaneous cornering and braking, especially on low-grip surfaces, helping the new model perform well in the Safety Assist category.  The new Sorento can also be fitted with such features as Adaptive Smart Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning System, Blind-Spot Detection, and Speed Limit Information Function.
