The government is planning to introduce fixed penalty notices for careless driving.

The new proposals would make any driver caught driving carelessly liable to receive a £90 fine and three points on their licence.

More serious offences such as causing death by dangerous driving will still go through the courts, but drivers will face an on-the-spot fine for less serious breaches such as:

  • Tailgating
  • Being in the wrong lane on a roundabout
  • Ignoring a lane closed sign and pushing into a queue
  • Hogging the middle lane on a motorway
  • Driving at an inappropriate speed
  • Wheel spins

Do you agree with these proposals or not? We'd love to hear your thoughts.
