Mercedes-Benz has announced that its new model, the Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG, will hit UK showrooms in the autumn.
Despite the fact that precise British pricing and specifications haven't yet been confirmed, Ola Källenius, CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH, has released certain details into the public domain:
"The combination of exclusive V12 dynamic performance and a refined roadster driving experience was already the defining attribute of the predecessor model. We are convinced that, with the new SL 65 AMG, we have developed an incomparably exciting high-performance vehicle for the small, but loyal community of fans."
The SL 65 AMG comes with a 6.0-litre V12 "biturbo" (twin-turbocharged) engine which develops a maximum output of 630bhp and maximum torque of 738lb-ft. According to the manufacturer, this results in an "exceptional performance, impressive power delivery and effortlessly superior dynamics."
A lightweight construction
Mercedes-Benz pointed out that the lightweight construction of the car (170 kg lighter than before) is what has helped to improve its fuel efficiency in comparison to other models.
This model is 17% more efficient than the previous SL 65 AMG, returning 24.4 mpg (NEDC combined). The company have also said that lower fuel consumption has been achieved thanks to the AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC transmission, the ECO start/stop-function, in-engine measures to optimise efficiency and alternator management.
UK consumers driving this vehicle will experience acceleration from 0 to 62 mph in 4 seconds - with the 125 mph mark achieved after 11.8 seconds. The top speed of the car, however, is electronically limited to 155 mph.
"It is a performance that reconciles effortless superiority and stylishness to perfection," boasts Mercedes-Benz, commenting on the AMG twelve-cylinder biturbo engine.
