Mazda is set to launch a new special edition of its MX-5, the Kuro.
The name Kuro, which is Japanese for black, is reiterated in the car's black roof, black door mirrors and black 17-inch alloy wheels. Despite the name, however, buyers will have a choice of three exterior paint-jobs: Velocity Red Mica, Crystal White Pearlescent and, of course, black.
Two different Kuro models will be on offer: a 1.8i soft-top and a 2.0i Roadster Coupe. The soft-top will develop 124bhp, get from 0-60mph in 9.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 121mph. The 2.0-litre engine in the Roadster Coupe, on the other hand, sends 158bhp through the rear wheels, propelling the car to 60mph in 7.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 136mph. The 1.8i gets a five-speed gearbox while the 2.0i gets a six-speed.
Both models get Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and traction control as standard and both are equipped with a limited-slip diff for better handling.
Only 200 models of the Kuro 1.8i and 400 examples of the 2.0i will be made with prices starting from £18,495 OTR.
The Kuro goes on sale on 1st July.
