Volkswagen has opened the order books for its new Beetle.

Now available to order, the new Volkswagen Beetle should see its first UK deliveries arrive in the spring of next year.

It comes with two engine options, a 103bhp, 1.2-litre TSI petrol engine with a 7-speed DG automatic gearbox, and a 159bhp, 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine married to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Trim options for the UK launch are Beetle, Design, and Sport. Beetle comes with air conditioning, remote central locking, CD player and DAB radio as standard.  The Design trim level adds 17-inch alloy wheels, Bluetooth, multi-device interface, iPod connectivity, front fog lights, alarm, leather-covered steering wheel, and body-coloured door and dash panels. The top level Sport trim receives 18-inch alloy wheels, tinted windows, cruise control, sports seats, parking sensors, climate control, and gloss black door mirrors, dash, and door panels.

Options on the new Beetle include keyless access, SatNav, panoramic sunroof, bi-xenon headlamps, and a comprehensive sound system developed in conjunction with iconic guitar manufacturer Fender.

Prices start at £16,490 for the 1.2-litre model with Beetle or Design trim. In 2012 the range of engine options will increase with the introduction of a 103bhp, 1.6-litre BlueMotion Technology TDI engine, a 138bhp 2.0-litre TDI, and a 197bhp 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine. Also coming in 2012 will be the option of a 6-speed manual gearbox in the 1.2-litre model.
