Ford’s Mondeo covers the largest distance on UK roads, according to figures compiled by Warranty Direct.
The British model racks up an average of 15,101 miles on an annual basis, steaming ahead of the Nissan Pathfinder which took last place on the Top 10 most-used cars in UK list. It clocked up just 12,546 miles a year on average.
The Mondeo also took the prize for the lowest percentage of incident claims at the warranty provider, with a figure of just 15%.
Commenting on the statistics Duncan Fisher, Warranty Direct managing director said, "The Mondeo's always been a favourite with company car drivers, and it appears they rarely stay idle for long. Despite this, they are reliable too.
"It goes to show that when buying used, the rule-of-thumb average mileage of 12,000 isn't really applicable, for example a four-year old Micra's average mileage will be little over 20k miles whereas a Mondeo's will be more like 60k miles."
"The average 10 year old Mondeo will have travelled equivalent to nearly six times around the globe."
The Nissan Micra topped the list of the Top 10 least-used cars in UK totalling an average of 5,580 miles on an annual basis. The Fiat Seicento came in a close second with 6,026 miles a year.
All cars judged were three plus years old and as expected those cars that had the least usage required less maintenance (21%) compared to the 34% figure for most-used cars.
