MINI have marked the launch of their MINI London 2012 Edition with a spectacular long jump attempt over three of the Olympic-themed models.

The stunt was completed by national long jump champion JJ Jegede, who has high hopes of competing at London 2012.  The specially constructed competition standard long jump track and pit enabled Jegede to successfully leap across the circa six-metre width of the MINIs lined up side by side. The jump, which took place at London's Potter's Field and was overseen by British Olympian Steve Backley, had no safety net so required Jegede to perform under pressure. "I've always wanted to demonstrate my ability in a fun way, so I jumped at the chance to perform an Evel Knievel-style display," said Jegede, "but I certainly advise any budding athletes not to try this one at home."

The stunt was designed to draw attention to MINI's London 2012 Special Edition models launched to commemorate the games. The Union Jack inspired the red, white, or blue colours, the unique sports stripe, and headrest piping. The white roofs and side scuttles display the London 2012 Olympic Games logo, as do the front seats. The dash features an etched London skyline including such landmarks as Tower Bridge, Battersea Power Station, and the London Eye. The dash will display the individual number of the model in the limited production run of just 2012 examples.
