MINI has revealed its fastest ever model -- the John Cooper Works GP.
The JCW GP's 1.6-litre turbocharged engine delivers 215bhp and 207lb-ft of torque. This is only 7bhp more than the standard JCW; however, MINI has also managed to find 55kg of excess flab to shed and, as such, the GP will get from 0-62mph in 6.3 seconds and on to a top speed on the bowel-loosening side of 150mph.
Don't think, however, that the JCW GP is all about straight-line speed; MINI has been careful to make sure that it's as entertaining through the bends as it is on the straights. The whole car sits 20mm closer to the ground than the standard model, and the front shock absorbers have been fitted upside down which, MINI claims, increases stiffness. On top of this, the 17-inch front wheels have increased camber and are fitted with super-grippy Pirelli tyres which help minimise understeer.
Visually, the GP is separated from the standard JCW by its Thunder Grey metallic paint, red accents, special alloy wheels and GP stickers. On the inside, you get two Recaro racing seats in the front, and no seats in the back -- MINI has removed the rear bench to keep the weight down.
Only 2,000 MINI JCW GPs will be making their way to the UK, and they'll cost from £28,790.
