MG has revealed more details of its forthcoming MG3 supermini, which is set to be launched onto the UK market in the autumn.
Unveiled at an event at MG's Longbridge factory, where it will shortly be put into production, the MG3 is described by the firm as a "distinctive statement of modern British style designed to target young and style conscious buyers, wanting something that's different from anything else in the market."
The MG3 will join the MG line-up alongside the existing MG 6 which has suffered from extremely poor sales since its launch in 2011.
MG is making a big noise about the level of customisation offered on the MG3. There will be three trim levels, 10 colours and at least 10 of what MG calls 'graphic packs' available across the range. MG claims that there are an 'almost endless' number of combinations.
Depending on the model chosen, the MG3 also comes with 16-inch 'Diamond cut' alloy wheels, hockey stick-shaped LED daytime-running lights, a sport-design bumper and rear valance, side sill extensions, a rear spoiler, and chrome tailpipes.
On the inside, features which will be available include air-conditioning, a six-speaker stereo, Bluetooth with audio streaming, DAB radio, USB/aux input, automatic lights, automatic wipers, rear parking sensors and part-leather trim.
The MG3 was designed at SAIC's European Design Centre in Birmingham, which is now the fifth largest studio if its type in the UK, employing more than 30 design staff and 300 engineers.
From launch the MG3 will be available only with a 104bhp 1.5-litre petrol engine mated to a five-speed gearbox. More engine options are expected to join the line-up in due course.
The exact pricing and specification details for the new MG3 will be announced closer to launch.
