Mercedes-Benz has unveiled an AMG version of its SLK roadster which was launched in March.
The new SLK 55 is the most powerful SLK ever made and, like its predecessor, it is fitted with a 5.5-litre V8 AMG engine. In the new car this produces 422bhp and 398lb-ft of torque; 0-62mph is taken care of in 4.6 seconds and the car has to be electronically restrained at 155mph.
Power is fed to the rear wheels via AMG's SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC automatic gearbox, which offers three settings: comfort, sport and manual. The auto 'box even double declutches automatically.
As well as being faster than its predecessor, the new SLK 55 promises to be more eco-friendly thanks to start/stop technology. There has been a 30% improvement in CO2 emissions with the new car churning out 195g of CO2 every kilometre and delivering around 33mpg on the combined cycle.
The SLK AMG can be distinguished from its less powerful brethren by virtue of its AMG alloy wheels, twin chrome tailpipes, AMG spoiler lip and various other bits of AMG trinketry.
There is no word yet on prices but the SLK 55 AMG will be released in the UK next January.
