Mercedes-Benz has revealed the full details of the new facelifted E63 AMG, ahead of its debut at next week's Detroit Motor Show.
The news comes just a day after the first image of the new hot E-Class was revealed on Mercedes' official Facebook page. And the big news is that, in addition to the new, revised E63, there will be a new uber-powerful S model, available in both saloon and estate forms.
In standard form, the new E63's 5.5-litre twin-turbo V8 will develop 549bhp and 531lb-ft of torque -- 31bhp and 15lb-ft more than its predecessor. The car's 0-62mph time has been slashed too, down a tenth to 4.2 seconds.
By contrast, the new E63 AMG S will churn out 577bhp and 590lb-ft of torque. This means that, in saloon form, 62mph will arrive in a dizzying 3.6 seconds -- quicker than a standard 911 Turbo -- while the estate manages the 0-62mph dash in 3.7 seconds.
In addition to the styling tweaks that are being rolled out across the E-Class range, the E63 gets adaptive sports suspension and a schizophrenic AMG automatic gearbox which includes both stop-start AND launch control. Who says Mercedes-Benz doesn't care about the planet?
S-models also get revised suspension geometry, a differential lock and can be specified with carbon-ceramic brakes.
The E63 and E63 S are coming to the UK in June, and while we understand that the standard car will cost slightly more than its predecessor, Mercedes is still deciding how much to charge for the S-model.
