Mercedes-Benz has announced the pricing and specification details for the new GL-Class, ahead of the beginning of production in January 2013.
Starting from £59,465, the GL 350 BlueTEC AMG Sport is 21mm longer and 10mm taller than its (already quite large) predecessor, and has a boot capacity increased by 60-litres. Despite this, the new model is 15 per cent more fuel efficient and 14 per cent less polluting, returning a combined 35.3mpg and 209g/km of CO2.
The power comes from a 3.0-litre V6 developing 258bhp and 457lb-ft of torque which propels the car to 62mph in 7.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 137mph.
The new GL 350 also gets improved levels of standard equipment including bi-xenon headlights, LED daytime-running lights, AMG bodystyling, 21-inch AMG alloys, an electric sunroof, air suspension, Parktronic with Active Park Assist and a DAB digital radio.
Costing from £91,680, the new GL 63 AMG is fitted with a 5.5-litre V8 which develops 557bhp and 531lb-ft of torque, giving a 0-62mph time of 4.9 seconds and a top speed of 155mph. But fuel consumption and CO2 emissions suffer compared to the 350, at just 23mpg and 288g/km of CO2.
On the outside, the GL 63 gets flared wheel arches with 21-inch AMG wheels, an AMG high-performance braking system, twin chrome exhausts and Active Curve System with AirMATIC which compensates for body roll during bends.
Inside, the GL 63 gets an AMG sports steering wheel trimmed in nappa leather, AMG sports seats and automatic climate control.
Prices for the GL 63 AMG start from £91,680.
