The new Mercedes S63 AMG Coupe has been revealed ahead of its world debut at the New York Motor Show next month.
The hot new version of the S-Class Coupe is powered by the same 577bhp 5.5-litre twin-turbo petrol V8 as the S63 saloon, with 663lb-ft of torque. The power is sent to a seven-speed AMG Speedshift automatic gearbox, and buyers have a choice between rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.
In rear-wheel drive form, Mercedes claims the S63 will get from 0-62mph in 4.3 seconds; however, with the all-wheel drive system this time is cut to just 3.9 seconds. Top speed in both cars is an electronically-limited 155mph.
These performance figures are helped by the fact that the new car is 65kg lighter than the car that preceded it, the old CL63 AMG. Mercedes has achieved this weight loss by fitting a lighter battery, forged alloy wheels and a lightweight composite braking system.
Like the S-Class saloon, the S63 AMG Coupe comes with Merc's Magic Body Control system, with 'curve-tilting' included as standard, which allows the car to lean into corners, improving both ride and handling. There's also an AMG sports exhaust which has three settings providing varying degrees of noise.
Outside, 19-inch alloys come as standard alongside a host of AMG styling tweaks, including chrome detailing around the grille, a gloss black rear diffuser, bigger side sills and a smattering of AMG badging.
Inside, there are AMG sports seats trimmed in nappa leather with AMG badging, an AMG steering wheel, a TFT colour display and a touchpad controller for the infotainment systems.
Prices for the new S63 AMG Coupe have yet to be released; however, a starting price north of £100,000 seems likely.
