Mercedes claims that its new CLA coupe is the world's most aerodynamic production car, with a drag coefficient of just 0.22.
Specifically, it's the CLA 180 BlueEfficiency model which achieves the impressive drag coefficient. To give you a sense of what drag coefficient means, a Hummer H2 has a drag coefficient of 0.57, a standard family car has a drag coefficient of around 0.30 and a Toyota Prius has a drag coefficient of 0.25.
Mercedes has made the CLA as aerodynamic as possible by fitting aerodynamically-optimised mirrors, wheel trims and serrated wheel spoilers. In addition to this, the CLA's A-pillars have been specifically designed to improve air flow and underbody panelling improves the flow of air underneath the car.
It is unclear whether Mercedes-Benz will offer the CLA 180 BlueEFFICIENCY to the UK market; however, we do know that buyers will have a choice between 1.6- and 2.0-litre petrol engines and a 2.2-litre diesel when the CLA goes on sale. UK pricing and specification details have yet to be revealed.
The CLA will be available to order from March, with the first deliveries expected in June.
