Only a few months before the new Citan is unveiled for the first time at the IAA Commercial Vehicle Show in Hannover in September 2012, Mercedes-Benz has announced the van’s specifications.
The Mercedes-Benz Citan won’t be unveiled to the public until later this year, but the car maker has given UK buyers a taste of what is to come.
“With its impressive quality and driving dynamics, exemplary safety and economy and a high level of versatility and robustness, the new Mercedes-Benz Citan is a truly professional urban van,” stressed the manufacturer.
The Citan is based on a panel van and is available in three different lengths: Compact, Long, Extra-long. Mercedes-Benz pointed out that it is specifically created to be used in the urban environment because it is both robust and reliable.
Safety equipment
One of the key characteristics of the model is its comprehensive safety equipment. The urban van comes with the Electronic Stability Program ADAPTIVE ESP as standard.
Additionally, the innovative dynamic handling control system in the new Citan combines the functions of the anti-locking braking system ABS, VDC (Vehicle Dynamic Control) which counters over/under steer and TCS (Traction Control System). It also includes ASR (Acceleration Skid Control) as well as drive and braking torque control.
Fuel efficient
As well as being safe, Mercedes-Benz also wanted its van to be fuel efficient to help their buyers optimise the vehicle’s performance and cut their motoring budgets.
This is why the petrol-engine Citan comes with a BlueEFFICIENCY package as standard (optional for the diesel versions).
Other features that aim to increase efficiency are the ECO start/stop function, battery and generator management, plus optimised low rolling resistance tyres depending on the variant; which can also reduce fuel consumption.
The van is powered by three high-torque, turbodiesel direct-injection engines with outputs from 75bhp (76PS) to 110bhp (111PS) and a petrol engine that provides 115bhp (116PS). All the diesel engines have a particulate filter as standard.
