The new Mercedes A45 AMG is available to order now priced from £37,845, the German manufacturer has announced.
The A45 AMG is the first car ever to come from Mercedes' specialist AMG division with fewer than six cylinders, as well as being the first compact AMG and the first all-wheel drive A-Class to arrive in the UK.
Powered by a hand-built 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine with 360bhp, the A45 AMG is also has the highest specific output of any car ever made, boasting a frankly incredible 181bhp per litre. The power is sent to all four corners via a seven-speed Speedshift double-clutch gearbox.
0-62mph takes just 4.6 seconds and the A45 AMG runs into the electronic buffers at 155mph. However, despite the impressive performance credentials, Mercedes claims the A45 will return 40.9mpg on the combined cycle and emit just 161g/km of CO2.
Looks-wise, the A45 AMG is an altogether more menacing proposition than the standard A-Class. A new front bumper is designed to feed air more efficiently to the intercooler and sits alongside a new AMG grille, a deep front splitter and, at the side of the car, gloss black sill extensions. At the back, the A45 AMG gets a new bumper and a new bespoke exhaust system.
The A45 also gets a choice of three new 18- or 19-inch alloy wheels, behind which you'll find improved brakes, springs and dampers.
Inside, AMG has given the A45 special AMG Performance seats upholstered in nappa leather with red stitching and AMG logos. The sports steering wheel is also covered in nappa leather and you get red seatbelts and a carbon-fibre dashboard. The A45 also gets a unique AMG electronic display which is fitted between the instrument dials, as well as DAB radio and iPod and Bluetooth connectivity as standard.
The first UK deliveries are expected in August.
