Mercedes-Benz has announced details of its new C63 AMG.
The new car has the same 6.3-litre V8 as its predecessor and power output remains unchanged at 487bhp, however fitting the optional AMG Performance pack ups this figure to 487bhp - an impressive 63bhp more than the BMW M3. Merc has also managed to improve fuel economy by about 10%, raising the saloon's figure to 23.5mpg and the estate's to 22.9mpg.
The C63 is also fitted with Mercedes' AMGSPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed transmission which, Mercedes claims, is capable of offering blistering track performance and relaxing fuel-saving motoring. Features offered by the new gearbox include double-declutching and a RACE START system which allows the C63 to blast from 0-62mph in 4.4 seconds (4.5 for the estate).
The boffins in the AMG skunkworks have also been fiddling with the suspension. The new car has new front and rear axles and a wider track, which should all go together to make the C63 AMG a better handling car than its predecessor. Quicker steering and more negative camber on all wheels should also help the C63 AMG put a smile on your face through the bends.
Prices are yet to be confirmed but expect a basic C63 AMG to cost north of £55k when it goes on sale here in July.
