McLaren has confirmed that the 12C Can-Am Edition will go into production, albeit in limited numbers.
The 12C Can-Am was first unveiled at the Pebble Beach concours back in August, and now McLaren has announced it will produce a limited production run of 30 cars.
Each 12C looks identical to the 12C GT3 racing car on which it is based; however, because the Can-Am is not designed to go racing, it does not have to adhere to strict racing regulations.
Power comes from the same 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 fitted to the standard MP4-12C, but McLaren has increased the power output to 621bhp -- 5bhp more than the road-going 12C and 128bhp more than the GT3.
The 12C Can-Am gets a huge carbon-fibre rear wing, which increases downforce by 30 per cent, along with carbon-fibre door mounts, sill covers, engine cover vents and side radiator intake vanes.
The Can-Am also gets an FIA-approved roll cage, race seats with six-point harnesses and a steering wheel identical to the one used in the GT3 racing car.
Production of the 12C Can-Am is set to begin in March and each model is expected to cost around £375,000.
