Mazda has updated its MX-5 with a redesigned front end, new safety technology and improved acceleration and braking.
You'd be forgiven for mistaking the new MX-5 for its predecessor; however, Mazda claims that the new car has a more 'aggressive' front end with a new bumper design and a deeper grille. In addition to this, there are new fog lamp surrounds and a chin spoiler which is said to improve aerodynamics.
The facelifted MX-5 also gets a new active bonnet system which raises the bonnet if the car hits a pedestrian, creating a larger crumple zone to minimise injury, especially to the head.
Mazda has also been fiddling around with the MX-5's acceleration management program and vacuum brake booster. The upshot of this is that the new car provides better throttle response and braking than before, and Mazda also claims improved handling thanks to improved front-rear load distribution.
The MX-5 is available in eight different paint colours including a new Dolphin Grey. Buyers can choose between a 1.8-litre petrol engine with 124bhp or a 2.0-litre with 158bhp, and between either a manual or an automatic six-speed gearbox.
The new Mazda MX-5 is on sale now.
