The Mazda MX-5 is Britain's most reliable car according to a survey of more than 50,000 vehicles conducted by What Car?

Incredibly, third-generation Mazda MX-5s have a failure rate of just 4%, meaning that 96% of all MX-5s sold since 2005 have never suffered a breakdown.

Each car in the survey was given a Reliability Index score based on how often the car fails, the cost of repair, the amount of time spent off the road, and the car's age and mileage. While the average score was 100, the MX-5 scored just 8 (the lower the score, the better the car).

The MX-5 was also praised for its lower repair costs, with an average repair bill of just £165.
