Since debuting in 1989 the Mazda MX-5 has become the biggest selling two door sports car in the world. And now after twenty one years the 900,000th MX-5 is about to be completed.

The UK has been one Mazda’s most lucrative markets with 40% of European sales occurring in Britain, along with 10% of global sales. The MX-5 has been on sale for longer than any Mazda.

The MX-5 has officially been recognised by the record books. In 2000 the Guinness Book of World Records gave it the title of “Best-selling two-seater sports car” after it reached the impressive figure of 531,890 sales. The MX-5 has gone on to pass the 800,000 mark and Mazda is again applying to have the number updated in the record books.

Today the MX-5 is on sale from £17,975 to £23,205. There are also two special editions: the 2.0-litre and the 1.8-litre Miyako.
