The breakdown service Green Flag is expecting a lull in callouts this weekend as the weather deters motorists from venturing outdoors.

The recent poor weather and an increase in fuel prices are predicted to put a stop to the traditional Bank Holiday traffic jams as drivers choose to stay home and keep dry.

Green Flag predicts a 27% drop in the number of drivers needing assistance on Bank Holiday Monday. A spokesperson for Green Flag said, "This April has widely been regarded as one of the wettest in recent memory and the inclement weather is predicted to continue through the May Day Bank Holiday. Combined with expensive petrol prices, we have analysed our own data and found that the forecast for the number of breakdowns is remarkably lower than this time last year as people opt to stay at home."

This is good news for those who intend to brave the weather on Monday, but Green Flag has warned motorists to be especially careful on the road, given the recent heavy rainfall and risk of flooding.
