The London Congestion Charge is set to rise from £10 to £11.50 per day from next month, Transport for London (TfL) has confirmed.
The increase, the first since 2011, will come into effect on 16 June.
Motorists using the auto-pay system will continue to receive a £1 discount, making their daily rate £10.50. TfL has also confirmed a range of improvements to be introduced next year, including direct debit payments for auto-pay customers, online discount applications and easier reimbursements for NHS patients and staff.
TfL said the price hike was necessary to "ensure the charge remains a relative deterrent to all but the most essential journeys into the centre of London" and will bring in £82.7million over the next five years, which will be reinvested in London's transport network.
Since the Congestion Charge was introduced in 2003, it has generated more than £1.2 billion has been raised and reinvested in London's transport infrastructure, with the majority of the money (£960m) being spent on improving the bus network. £102m has been spent on roads and bridges, £70m on road safety, £51m on local transport plans and £36m on sustainable transport.
