Drivers will welcome the news that Ford is helping drivers reduce their fuel costs with its latest Fiesta ECOnetic model.
The car emits just 87g CO2/km, exempting it from the London Congestion Charge and road tax.
Ford also boasts that its new Fiesta offers 85.6mpg on the combined cycle.
The Ford Fiesta with ECOnetic Technology has three trim levels to suit different customer requirements: Edge, Zetec or Titanium.
Ford stated that the "low-CO2 technology has the greatest impact in shielding household budgets from the effect of rising fuel prices."
The Fiesta is joined by three other frugal Ford models. The new Ford Focus ECOnetic is also road tax and congestion charge-exempt offering 83.1mpg (88g CO2/km), and a 65.6mpg (114g) Ford Mondeo is available in both estate and five-door variants.
Independent research by website Clean Green Cars, found that Ford has successfully reduced average fleet CO2 from a figure of 154.5g/km in 2006 to a current figure of 134g/km.
Ford Britain Managing Director, Mark Ovenden, said, "We cannot influence how the cost of motoring changes as a result of today's Budget, but we will continue to design, develop and market innovative vehicles that minimise the cost of motoring for today's families. Our cars are fun to drive, stylish and packed with technology, while returning up to 20mpg more than just a few years ago."
The new FiestaVan ECOnetic, priced from £12,215, also emits 87g/km of CO2.
For drivers that want to stick to petrol vehicles, the Ford Focus now has a 125bhp and 88bhp 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine which can achieve 58.9mpg (and as low as 109g CO2/km).
