Kia has won the Ultra Low Carbon award in this year’s What Car? Awards.

Kia has won recognition for its environmental efforts in the form of the Ultra Low Carbon Award from What Car? Magazine.

At the annual What Car? Awards ceremony held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London Kia won praise for its 'dramatic progress' in releasing new cars with the 'lowest average CO2 emissions' over the course of the last year as the firm was presented with the Ultra Low Carbon Award. The Kia Rio was also given a special mention for its class-leading CO2 emissions figure of 85g/km, which makes it the cleanest non-electric vehicle in the world.

Last summer What Car? also praised the new Kia Picanto at its Green Awards ceremony, crowning it with the title of 'Green Supermini of the Year'. The Editor in Chief of What Car? Chas Hallet commented on the latest award, saying:

"Kia models that were launched in the past year have the lowest average CO2 emissions of any launched in the past 12 months. Best of all Kia's engineers have managed to achieve these figures without resorting to expensive hybrid technology."

The award was presented to the Chief Operating Officer of Kia Motors Europe, Paul Philpott, who said:

"Kia has been striving over recent years not only to deliver exciting, attractive, high-quality cars but also to deliver real benefits to customers in the form of cleaner technologies that don't carry a price premium. We are delighted that What Car? - one of Europe's leading consumer magazines - has recognised our efforts."
