Back in 1963, Jaguar decided to build a handful of all-alloy ultra-lightweight versions of the E-Type. The company allocated 18 chassis numbers to the project; however, in the end, only 12 cars were ever made.
51 years later, however, Jaguar has announced it is to finish what it started, with six new E-Types, each of which will bear one of the long-dormant chassis numbers, to go into production.
The cars will be identical to their sixties counterparts, featuring the same 3.8-litre all-aluminium straight-six engine as the original car. The cars will also be 114kg lighter than a standard E-Type of the era too, thanks to the all-aluminium bodywork, stripped out interior and lack of chrome bumpers and trim. Customers will be able to choose their own colour and trim options for the new model.
Naturally, you're going to want to buy one; however, the big question is how much the lightweight E-Type will cost. Unfortunately, we haven't got a Scooby -- the originals are changing hands for well over £1,000,000 these days, and as only six are being built, we can't imagine they'll be cheap.
