Jaguar Land Rover has announced the creation of 700 new jobs at its engine manufacturing facility near Wolverhampton.

The news was announced by Jaguar Land Rover's CEO Dr Ralf Speth at the Geneva Motor Show at a press conference prior to the Geneva Motor Show.

The new engine manufacturing centre (pictured above) at the i54 business park on the Staffordshire/Wolverhampton border is currently under construction.

The company has confirmed it will invest £500 million in the new factory, which is due to open in 2014. The first engines are due to come off the new production line in 2015 and JLR hopes to eventually increase the number of employees at the manufacturing centre to more than 1,400.

Speth said: "Jaguar Land Rover's new Engine Manufacturing Centre in the UK is a clear demonstration of our business strategy guiding our investment plans.

"Not only does it bring our engine supply back to our production doorstep, but it gives us significant new resource as we continue to innovate with new products and markets."

Jaguar Land Rover enjoyed a record year in 2012, selling around 350,000 vehicles worldwide -- a 30 per cent increase on 2011's figures. Around 80 per cent of JLR's vehicles are exported, with China the firm's biggest market.
