Having won the Jaguar Academy of Sport Special Recognition Award, Rhys Walker will receive private mentoring from Commonwealth champion and British swimmer, Adam Whitehead.
Rhys, an 18 year old badminton player from Warwickshire, has been playing the sport for ten years and has already entered both national and international competitions.
The one-to-one mentoring from former swimming champion, Adam Whitehead, is intended to help Rhys develop his own skills, giving him the support and guidance to help him achieve his sporting goals.
The support is claimed to be “invaluable” for the young athlete, who is currently ranked first in the under 19 boy singles, doubles and mixed doubles categories.
Rhys has previously won the singles nation title for four consecutive years before winning the singles doubles and mixed titles in 2011.
His current training regime sees him work with former England International and Senior Head Coach, Steve Butler, five days a week.
The additional training from Whitehead, who is also from Warwickshire, will be combined with this training to give Rhys the best possible chance of attaining success as he focuses on his singles career.
Rhys won the chance to receive the mentoring through the Jaguar Academy of Sport. The academy offers recognition to aspiring sporting talent within the UK, giving young athletes the support and encouragement they need.
The academy is part of the manufacturer’s dedication to promoting growth and development, something which is also reflected through their extensive range of models.
Both Rhys Walker and Adam Whitehead expressed their delight and excitement about the mentoring opportunity, expecting it to promote sport in future generations.
Both athletes were named as “success stories” or inspirational figures, with both having achieved immensely positive results from their contributions to the sporting world.
