The new 200bhp Veloster Turbo sports car from Hyundai got its world debut at the Detroit Motor Show.
The new Hyundai Veloster Turbo sports car which was unveiled to the public for the first time at the Detroit Motor Show will first go on sale in the US market this summer, before crossing the Atlantic for a European launch. The new Veloster will go up against popular models like the MINI Cooper/Clubman S, Volkswagen GTI and Honda Civic Si in the UK as well as in the US. But Vice President of Product and Corporate Planning, Mike O'Brien, is confident that it will be a success, claiming that the Veloster has a better power-to-weight ratio than all of these competitors, alongside a unique sport-tuned suspension and steering system.
The Veloster Turbo is driven by an all-new 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol injection engine, and comes with a choice of 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmissions. When it goes on sale the Veloster will be the first vehicle in Hyundai's ambitious '7/11' initiative, which will see the firm release seven new or redesigned models over the course of 11 months.
This year's Detroit Motor Show also saw the launch of the updated 274bhp Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0 Turbo, and an announcement by the firm that its Elantra model has won the Car of the Year Award from American automotive journalists.
