The new B-segment MPV from Hyundai, the ix20, has been given a maximum five star safety rating by Euro NCAP.

Independent vehicle assessment organisation Euro NCAP, the main safety testing body in Europe, has awarded a maximum five star rating to the new ix20 MPV from Hyundai.

This latest award means that the ix20 is the fourth consecutive Hyundai car to get a maximum five stars from Euro NCAP, with the i20 supermini, i30 hatchback and ix35 SUV making up the group.

The Hyundai ix20 scored especially highly in the 'child occupant protection' category, with a class-leading score of 85% and a strong performance in safety assessments for both 18 month year old occupants and three year old occupants. A strong score of 89% for 'adult occupant' protection and 64% for 'pedestrian' protection ensured the five star rating for the ix20. The new MPV from Hyundai also scored well in the 'safety assist' category with a score of 71%, thanks to the car's seatbelt reminder system and electronic stability program.

The Senior Vice President and COO of Hyundai Motor Europe, Allan Rushforth, commented:

"The ix20's five-star rating further demonstrates Hyundai's commitment to the highest levels of safety for our customers.  Add to that a very generous standard specification, a range of efficient engines, and the assurance of our unrivalled Five Year Triple Care, and the ix20 becomes a very appealing package."
