Honda has invested £267 million in its Swindon manufacturing plant.

This is the Japanese company's biggest investment in its UK facility for a decade, and coincides with the new Honda CR-V going on sale in Britain.

The investment programme began last year with the introduction of the new Civic, and also includes the production of Honda's new 1.6-litre diesel engine which will be offered in both the Civic and the new CR-V.

This is good news for the UK automotive industry; Honda has already created over 500 more jobs, taking the total workforce to 3,500. The Swindon plant is aiming to produce 183,000 cars this year -- double the number produced in 2011 -- and plans to increase this number to 250,000 in 2013.
