Honda has announced that a new Civic Type R is in the pipeline.
The new Type R is due for launch in 2015 and Honda claims that it aims to "set new standards in performance and handling" with the new model.
The new Type R will be developed specifically for the European market using technology developed through Honda's participation in the World Touring Car Championship.
Honda is also aiming to ensure that the new Type R becomes the fastest front-wheel drive car ever to lap the Nurburgring. This means beating the mighty Renault Megane RS Trophy's time of 8 minutes 7.97 seconds.
The old Civic Type R (pictured above) was a bit of a let-down, so it remains to be seen whether the new model can recapture some of the magic of Type Rs of old.
