An HGV driver had an 'amazing' escape after his vehicle careered off a flyover on the M42 and landed on the M6 Toll below.
The lorry left the flyover at around 6.30pm on Monday, landing on the northbound carriageway of the M6 Toll.
Amazingly, the lorry completely avoided hitting any other vehicles. The driver, who is in his 50s, managed to extricate himself from the wreckage and was airlifted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham with serious lower leg injuries, neck and back pain, and facial lacerations.
Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service said that the accident caused around 1,200-litres of diesel to spill across the carriageway, which was closed overnight for emergency repairs.
An investigation is underway as to whether any other vehicles were involved in the accident.
