Hennessey is building a new 'World's Fastest Edition' of its Venom GT to celebrate the car's world record-breaking run at the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida last month.
On 14 February, the 1244bhp supercar managed to set a new world record for the highest speed ever achieved by a production car, clocking an astonishing 270.49mph on Florida's 2.8-mile Space Shuttle landing runway.
Although this makes the Venom GT technically the world's fastest car, it's still the 267mph Bugatti Veyron which holds the official record. This is because, in order to achieve the Guinness World Record, speed runs must be attempted in both directions and an average of the two taken.
Nevertheless, Hennessey is rightly proud of the Venom GT's achievement. Hennessey boss Don Goldman said: "We're thrilled about what we achieved at Cape Canaveral with the Venom GT.
"And now the World's Fastest Edition is a living, breathing celebration of that record achievement."
So, what does the new 'World's Fastest Edition' get that the standard car doesn't? Well, the short answer to that is some red and blue stripes. Mechanically, the special edition is identical to the standard car; however, given the 7.0-litre twin-turbo V8's impressive performance credentials, we'd say that any performance upgrades would be a bit of a waste of time anyway.
Naturally, you want one. Unfortunately, only three will be made, and they've already been sold for £757,300.
