Head-up displays (HUDs) have been around for a few years now; however, technology firm Harman is planning to take the HUD to the next level with its latest innovation, the augmented reality interactive windscreen.

Harman claims that the new technology will 'transform the car into a mobile office -- safely.' The tech was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show.

In addition to the information normally display by HUDs (speed, engine revs etc.), Harman's new system shows the driver things like the distance to the car in front, weather conditions, directions, warnings of accidents ahead and, perhaps most impressively, incoming phone calls with pictures of the caller.

But despite the breadth of the technology, Harman claims that the system will be neither distracting nor dangerous. In fact, the driver will be able to silence phone calls and reject incoming information with the wave of a hand, should they need to.
