The German supercar builder Gumpert has applied for insolvency after failing to meet sales targets.
Gumpert is looking to secure further investment to continue in its attempts to crack the Chinese market.
In case you’d forgotten, Gumpert is famous for building the insane Apollo sports car which can from 0-62mph in 3.0 seconds and on to a top speed of 220mph. It's so fast that, for a time, it topped the Top Gear Power Lap board.
The courts have appointed a lawyer, Görge Schied, to act as Gumpert's insolvency administrator. Scheid claims that there is a good chance that Gumpert can be saved if a suitable investor is found.
Roland Gumpert, founder of the company, is similarly hopeful: "The Apollo has gained an exclusive fan base throughout Germany and Europe. Now we have taken care of this customer base intensely. Production continues and we hope to sell the first vehicle within this week."
We're big fans of the Apollo -- any car which can lap the Nürburgring in 7:11 is alright by us -- and we hope that Gumpert finds enough money to carry on building blistering track-day hypercars.
