The new Lexus NX 300h will use an intelligent mix of power to drive its all-wheel technology whilst still remaining light weight.
The ‘E-Four’ system will use a separate electric motor to run the rear axle in order to increase grip and improve control for the driver. The front wheels will be driven as expected by the hybrid petrol engine, the electric motor or a combination of the two.
Operation will be automatic and it will be able to intelligently vary the torque delivered to the rear wheels in response to changes in the road surface or driving conditions. As the technology is only brought into use when required, energy and fuel are saved by avoiding over use.
The rear motor is used to generate power for the Lexus NX 300h’s regenerative braking system, harnessing kinetic energy and further boosting the green credentials of Lexus’ latest offering.
E-Four technology will be fitted as standard on all UK versions of the new Lexus NX 300h, except for the entry-level S model, which will only have abilities for front wheel drive. Efficient performance will help the crossover achieve combined cycle fuel economy of 54.3mpg with 121g/km CO2 emissions.
