Even though the petrol prices are sky-high, the new fuel efficient Ford Focus is making its drivers pay less for petrol than they did four years ago.
Petrol prices are forcing most drivers to struggle, but those enjoying a fuel efficient car might have less to complain about. This is precisely Ford’s aim, helping motorists save as much as possible on fuel through an efficient engine.
Its Ford Focus 100 PS (99 bhp) 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine delivers fuel costs as low as those being paid in 2008 – despite the 34% increase to fuel prices which has affected UK drivers during that period.
Ford gave further details about this fuel optimisation and said that whilst petrol prices stood at 104.3p per litre in January 2008, an owner of the 100 PS (99 bhp) 1.6-litre Ford Focus five-door pays just 11.2p per mile on average.
With petrol prices currently at 140p per litre, Ford explained that owners of the 1.0-litre Ford Focus five-door pay 10.8p per mile in petrol: 0.4p per mile less than previous figures.
This is thanks to an impressive fuel efficiency rate of 58.8 mpg and low CO2 emissions of 109 g/km. Ford have stated that: “the new engine takes fuel economy and CO2 emissions to new levels for a petrol family car.”
‘Exceptional’ fuel economy
“The Ford Focus 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine changes the economics of family motoring, delivering exceptional fuel economy from a petrol engine. It’s a time machine which takes you back to the days of lower fuel costs, without compromising power or driveability,” said Andy Barratt, Sales Director of Ford Britain.
"Family budgets are under real pressure, and record petrol prices are the last thing that motorists need. When feeding the family or even posting a letter costs so much more, anything which helps to fight the rising cost of fuel is very welcome."
