Independent consumer organisation Euro NCAP, who conduct safety tests on all new models released on the European market, have released statistics rating the Ford Focus as best in class for the small family car sector.

The Focus netted the accolade after achieving a maximum five-star Euro NCAP safety rating. This is in addition to the four Euro NCAP Advanced rewards the Focus picked up last year for its driver fatigue detecting Driver Alert system, Forward Alert collision warning system, Active City Stop which helps minimise low speed collisions, and its Lane Keeping Aid Technologies designed to alert drivers who stray from their lane.

The Focus' five-star rating came from an adult occupant score of 92%, child occupant rating of 82%, pedestrian score of 72% and a 71% safety assist rating.

Ford is celebrating the report which also saw the new Ranger pickup become the first in its class to be awarded a five-star rating by Euro NCAP. Its pedestrian protection levels were singled out for praise.
