Ford has announced the price list for the new Ford Kuga, ahead of its 2013 UK debut.

The big news is that, with prices starting from £20,895, the new car is over £1,000 cheaper than its predecessor. Ford has slashed prices across the Kuga range and increased the level of standard equipment available on all models.

Buyers will have a choice of 148bhp and 178bhp 1.6-litre EcoBoost petrol engines and 128bhp and 161bhp 2.0-litre diesels. In front-wheel drive form, the less powerful of the two diesels will return a combined 53.3mpg and emit just 139g/km of CO2.

Ford claims that the new Kuga will be the first car in its class to come with a hands-free boot lid which can be opened by waving your foot under the rear bumper. Other technologies available on the new car include Active Park Assist, a Blind Sport Information System and Ford's SYNC Audible Text Messaging and Emergency Assist system.

The new Kuga should also be more practical than the car it replaces; Ford has upped the boot space by 82-litres, and when the rear seats are folded flat, an additional 200-litres of luggage space is on offer.

Prices range from £20,895 for the 1.6 EcoBoost Zetec with front-wheel drive and a manual gearbox, to £29,795 for the top-of-the-range 161bhp four-wheel drive 2.0-litre diesel with Ford's PowerShift Automatic gearbox in Titanium X spec.

Ford is taking orders for the new Kuga now, and the first cars are expected to arrive in Ford dealerships in early 2013.
