Vauxhall has released the first images of the new facelifted Insignia range, which goes on sale today.

The Insignia gets a range of exterior styling improvements and an improved interior, but it's the price list where you'll find the biggest difference. The new entry-level model is priced at just £16,279 -- nearly £2,000 less than base model in the outgoing range. There have also been widespread price reductions across the Insignia range.

Vauxhall has also added a range of new engines to the Insignia line-up, including a new 138bhp 2.0-litre diesel which emits just 99g/km of CO2, and two new turbocharged petrols, a 1.6-litre with 168bhp and a 2.0-litre with 247bhp.

There have also been improvements to the Insignia's ride and handling. Vauxhall has tweaked the car's damper and anti-roll bar settings and reprogrammed the car's electronic power steering. The upshot of this is that the new car offers improved roadholding and lower levels of NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness).

On the outside, the styling changes are subtle and on first glance you'd be forgiven for mistaking the car for the outgoing model. Vauxhall has fitted a new, larger grille and a new front bumper with lower air intakes. The Insignia also gets rear lights which mimic those fitted to the new Cascada and a new 'logo-bar' (the thin strip of metal which flanks the Vauxhall badge).

Inside, Vauxhall has completely redesigned the Insignia's centre console and instrument cluster, addressing one of the main criticisms of the old model. There are substantially fewer buttons than before -- a change which Vauxhall claims makes foe more intuitive operation of the car's controls.

In addition to this, there's a redesigned steering wheel and the option to fit an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment display.

The new Vauxhall Insignia will make its official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September, and the first deliveries are expected in October.
