The Chevrolet Volt made a guest appearance at this year’s Brighton marathon to show off its Extended Range Electric Vehicle (E-REV) technology.

The model is the first in the world to boast the technology which uses a combination of electric motors and an on-board generator to provide back-up power once battery power has been depleted.

The technology meant that the Chevrolet Volt could stay the course of the 26-mile marathon route without using any petrol or a single tailpipe emission.

“With a full marathon lasting 26 miles and the Volt covering up to 50 miles on a charge, this event was the perfect opportunity to demonstrate the benefits of emissions-free driving, especially in a city as eco-focused as Brighton.

“Most cars are at their least efficient and most polluting when driven through cities, especially when they’re driven at a stop-start pace. But this is where the Volt comes into its own – there’ll be quite a few runners who appreciated the lack of exhaust smoke during the marathon,” said Mark Terry, Chevrolet UK Managing Director.

The Chevrolet Volt has a range of over 350 miles and can be driven without being charged, if necessary. This means that drivers can avoid the pitfall of being stranded if petrol reserves run low according to Terry.

“The Volt is the answer to this, as no longer do you need to worry that an electric car will leave you stranded. It’s the perfect no-compromise choice for motorists who want to do their bit for the environment without compromise.”

The model boasts the following features on its exterior including closed front grille, bracket-less window wipers and a sporty integrated spoiler, all designed to boost the model’s ‘aerodynamics’ according to Chevrolet.

Interior features include automatic climate control with humidity sensor, DAB radio, keyless entry, front and rear park assist with rear parking camera, and touch-sensitive switch-work.
