The all-electric Renault Zoe is now available to order, with prices starting from £13,650 including the £5,000 Government electric car grant.

The Zoe will arrive in Renault showrooms in the spring, but buyers can now reserve a car with a £49 deposit.

The Zoe is a new supermini-sized electric car powered by an 87bhp electric motor. Renault claims that the Zoe will have the longest range of any current mass-produced production electric car with an official figure of 130 miles; however, the true range is likely to be around 60 miles in cold weather and 90 miles in warmer conditions.

Unlike with cars such as the Nissan Leaf, Zoe buyers will also be required to lease the car's batteries separately. The upside of this is that it removes the worry of ultimately having to fork out for a replacement battery; the downside is that the cost of leasing the battery will be between £70 and £103 every month, depending on mileage and the length of the plan.

All Zoes come with Renault's Chameleon charger, which can be used with power sources ranging from a conventional household power socket to a 43kW electricity supply. This means that the Zoe can be fully recharged in between 30 minutes and 9 hours, depending on the supply.

The Zoe will be available in three levels of trim: Expression, Dynamique Zen and Dynamique Intens. All cars come with a special voice alarm to warn pedestrians when the near-silent Zoe is approaching, as well a 7-inch touchscreen and regenerative braking technology.
