It's been a year since Dacia made its UK debut and in that time the Romanian budget brand has managed to sell 17,146 cars, making it the most successful UK car brand launch ever.

Dacia launched last January with the introduction of the Duster SUV and the Sandero supermini, Britain's cheapest new car. Since then, the Renault sub-brand has outsold the likes of Jaguar, Lexus, Mitsubishi and Lexus.

The range was supplemented later that year with the Logan MCV estate and Sandero Stepway crossover. By far the most popular model in the range, however, has been the Duster, with 7,830 examples finding homes, followed by the standard Sandero, with 5,025 sales.

The tough economic climate has undoubtedly had a positive impact on Dacia's sales, with buyers looking to save money on their cars. Whether the company's success will continue as the economy picks up remains to be seen, but given the positive reviews garnered by the cars, we'd be surprised if it didn't.
