As revealed in the annual Euro NCAP ‘class leader’ announcement, the new Aveo has taken the ‘best in class’ award in the competitive Supermini market.

Following a severe and meticulous Euro NCAP standards test, the new Chevrolet Aveo secured 85 out of a possible 100 points, placing it at the very top of its segment.

The car scored highly in the key areas of adult and child occupant protection, where the Chevrolet Aveo scored 95 and 87 percent respectively. Judges were very impressed by this, as well as by its extensive array of safety features.

“We take safety very seriously at Chevrolet and this class-leading result for the new Chevrolet Aveo proves this entirely,” said Mark Terry, Managing Director, Chevrolet UK.

“Our whole model line-up provides impeccable safety credentials with the majority achieving a five star rating; it brings great peace of mind to our customers.”

Safety features

The latest line-up offers safety in more ways than one.  The New Chevrolet Aveo safety features include six standard airbags that are connected to sensors mounted into the middle of the car and also feature a child-seat latching system.

Furthermore, the car's active safety systems include electronic stability control, traction control, a four-channel anti-lock braking system with brake assist, and electronic brake force distribution. On top of this, hill-start assist and cruise control with a speed limiter function are also among the Aveo's impressive standard features.

A five-star car

Alongside the new Aveo, Chevrolet’s model line-up features four more Euro NCAP five star cars; the Cruze, Captiva and Orlando all carry the accolade.

Additionally, 2011 was the first year electric vehicles were crash tested and rated on safety. By bringing home another five star rating, the Chevrolet Volt proved that safety is not compromised in electric vehicles.
