Prime Minister David Cameron and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg have both got behind the wheel of MINIs at an event in Paris as part of the GREAT Britain Campaign.
The Government initiative is designed to help promote the best of British around the world, and since over 1.5 million of the iconic UK-built cars have been exported in the past decade it was decided that the MINI was the perfect example to showcase. Planned to coincide with the London 2012 Olympics and Diamond Jubilee, the GREAT campaign aims to showcase UK heritage, culture, countryside, sport, shopping, music, green, creativity, knowledge, entrepreneurship, technology and innovation, to international tourism and business audiences.
"MINI is a fantastic success story and I'm delighted that the company is supporting GREAT, our campaign to promote Britain abroad," said Mr Cameron, who recently drove the two-millionth MINI off the Oxford production line, "We want to welcome the world to Britain in 2012 and show everyone what makes our country such a great place to live, work, visit and invest."
MINI currently produces five models at its Oxford plant - the Hatchback, the Convertible, the Clubman, the Coupe, and the soon to be released Roadster - and last year 191,474 vehicles rolled off the assembly line.
