Essex County Council has come under criticism for painting over a pothole rather than repairing it.

The council has been accused of putting profits ahead of road safety after council workers painted speed camera calibration lines over an existing pothole on the A128 at Kelvedon Hatch.

An AA spokesperson claimed that the pothole could be dangerous to motorcyclists: "The pothole appears to have a particularly nasty edge which could affect control of a vehicle, especially a powered-two-wheeler."

Essex County Council has apologised and issued instructions to prevent this from happening again.
