Three different organisations have announced BMW cars to be the cleanest and most environmentally friendly in the premium sector.
BMW's high standards of sustainability have again been recognised by the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, which crowned BMW as the most sustainable car company for the seventh year running. This makes BMW the only automotive company to have featured on the index, which is known as the leading organisation for accurate like-for-like analysis of companies, every year since it was first launched.
Further recognition has come from the Clean Green Cars website, which named BMW as the leading brand in the premium car category, and from the What Car? Green Car Awards, which crowned the BMW 318d ES Saloon as the 'Best Executive Car'.
The 318d Saloon is certainly one of BMW's cleanest and most efficient models, with a combined fuel consumption figure of 62.8mpg and CO2 output running at 199g/km. This car also features innovative EfficientDynamics technology to further boost its green credentials.
What Car? Editor in Chief Chas Hallet commented that, "The BMW 318d ES qualifies for the lowest, 13 per cent, company car tax band for diesel cars and can average 62.8mpg. It also costs a measly £30 a year to tax. It is equipped with a great 2.0-litre diesel engine that pulls strongly, and it offers a great premium driving experience. It grips strongly and has excellent poise."
But the 318d is certainly not the only BMW car with impressive efficiency and cleanliness. Research from Clean Green Cars has shown that the firm now has a fleet average CO2 emissions figure of just 142g/km, which represents an improvement of almost 5% on last year's figures.
BMW has been the leading manufacturer for clean and efficient cars ever since it launched its EfficientDynamics system. Audi come in second place with CO2 emission averages of 145g/km.
