BMW has today announced a further £250m investment into its UK manufacturing facilities.

This is in addition to the £500m invested by the German firm in its Oxford, Swindon and Birmingham plants last year.

The money will help support increased production at the factories and the introduction of ten new models over the next few years.

Business secretary Dr Vince Cable, addressing MINI employees in Oxford, said: "BMW's ambitious plans for MINI will ensure its UK sites at Oxford, Swindon and Hams Hall remain at the centre of MINI production worldwide."

Currently, over 80% of MINIs are exported to foreign markets and BMW's UK operations contribute £1.2 billion annually to the UK GDP. The company also employs some 46,000 people across the country.
