BMW, who are the Official Automotive Partner of the 2012 London Olympics, have today announced the launch of the BMW London 2012 Performance Team.
The BMW London 2012 Performance Team which was announced by the company today is an initiative designed to provide Team GB and Paralympics GB with support as they prepare for the games, with plans already underway to put BMW's technological and performance expertise to good use.
Twelve athletes have joined the Performance Team so far, including medal prospects such as Tom Daley, Ellie Simmonds and Louis Smith, as well as new hopefuls like Giles Scott and Jonathan Brownlee. More athletes will be brought into the Performance Team over the next few months.
As part of their involvement in this new initiative, athletes who join the BMW London 2012 Performance Team will share their own unique insights into preparation for the 2012 Games, as well as key moments from their careers.
At the launch of the BMW London 2012 Performance Team at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, Team GB diver Tom Daley said that:
"It's no secret that I'll be looking to win a gold medal at London 2012 but what I do in the run up to the Games, is as important as what I do on the day itself. Having the support of the BMW London 2012 Performance Team throughout my training will help to drive me towards my dream and hopefully to pass my driving test this year too - I can't wait to get into my MINI!"
BMW's sustainability credentials are also expected to help London 2012 to meet their aim to provide a sustainable Olympic Games. In order to do this BMW will supply Games organisers with a range of their EfficientDynamics diesel cars, hybrids and electric vehicles, with CO2 emissions below the LOCOG target of 120g/km.
BMW and MINI dealers will also provide support by linking with athletes in their local areas.
